The Lucid Air is a newcomer in the luxury EV space from startup Lucid. This sleek all-electric sedan competes directly with Tesla’s Model S. With a top speed of 217 miles per hour, up to 1,111 horsepower in the top trim, and 0-60 miles per hour in under 3 seconds, this is an incredibly high-performance EV.
It is quite clear that the Air is intended to appeal to the luxury buyer segment. The sedan is fitted with lavish materials and cutting-edge technology to make for one of the best-looking interiors of any car on the market. The dashboard features three screens, including a digital gauge cluster instead of a conventional analog one. Moreover, Lucid's multimedia interface includes an artificial intelligence system which can recognize natural speech and can detect speech even from the rear seats. Like Teslas, the Lucid Air comes with autonomous driving technology, so drivers are fully equipped for the future of driving.
The Lucid Air is available in four trim levels. The least expensive trim level is the Air Pure, which starts at $77,400. The Air Pure trim features a single electric motor on the rear delivering 480 horsepower and 406 miles of range. The next trim is the Touring trim ($95,000), which has dual-motor all-wheel drive providing 620 horsepower and 406 miles of range. Moving up from the Touring trim, the Grand Touring trim ($139,000) has two motors producing 800 horsepower (1050 horsepower with the Grand Touring Performance package) and allows for a range of up to 516 miles. The pinnacle of luxury can be found in the top trim, the limited- production Lucid Air Dream Edition. This electric car model will set you back $169,000 and provides a whopping 1,111 horsepower and 520 miles of range. In terms of fuel economy, the most efficient model of the Lucid Air is rated at 131 MPGe combined, while the Performance version is rated at 111 MPGe combined.
To take full advantage of fast home charging, Lucid Air owners will want to install a 48-amp home EV charger, such as the JuiceBox 48®, as their own Lucid Air charger which has a standard J1772 plug that works with any electric vehicle on the market.
