Charging the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid

Everything drivers need to know about the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid

With the second generation’s introduction in 2018, MINI brought electrification to its popular compact crossover with the Countryman Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in North America. Utilizing a plug-in hybrid powertrain gives MINI owners an introduction to eco-friendly driving. With the 2025 model year, the Countryman comes into its 3rd generation with an all new fully electric model alongside its plug-in hybrid twin, giving drivers the choice of fully electric compact luxury or utilizing the brand’s existing inline-3 with a battery perfect for commuting. The MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid’s closest competitors include other compact PHEVs like the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid.

MINIs have always been quirky: with a round central infotainment system and its classic knobs that remind drivers of the original MINI from the 60’s. The latest generation brings that into the modern age, increasing the round infotainment screen to 9.4” to take advantage of the latest graphics, including an AI dog named Spike built into the MINI OS9 powered screen that interacts with drivers. Interior details also include sustainably-sourced materials throughout the cabin and the dashboard.

Charging the MINI Countryman PHEV

The plug-in hybrid Countryman SE was originally introduced in 2018 with the brand’s 1.5 liter inline-3 and a 7.6 kWh battery powering all four wheels, giving the compact crossover a city-capable 12 miles of range while driving around town. In 2020, the model brought an increased 10 kWh battery that provided an additional 6 miles of range.

All PHEV model years utilize a 3.7 kW Level 2 charger. Having a home charger is the best way to take advantage of owning an EV. Home chargers like the JuiceBox 32 can power your Countryman SE from the comfort of home, with scheduling and monitoring smart charging features.
