Combining practical functionality with an exciting driving experience, the Volkswagen Golf is one of the most well loved auto models on the market. In 2014, Volkswagen Group introduced the e-Golf, the first fully electric model to the Golf lineup, and released a refreshed version with a larger battery and faster charging for the 2020 model year. The e-Golf electric vehicle (EV) delivers everything that drivers have come to know and love about its gas powered counterpart with the extra pep of an electric powered drivetrain.
Part of the first generation of EVs released in the US, it competed against other electric hatchbacks including the Nissan LEAF and BMW i3.
When it launched in 2015, the e-Golf was offered in a single SEL trim complete with a 24.2 kWh battery that provided an EPA-rated 83 miles of range, subsequent years offering energy saving hardware such as a heat pump helped drivers max that range rating, especially in winter months. Earlier models included standard 3.6 kW Level 2 charging and 40 kW DC fast charging was an optional extra. The 2017 model offered the largest update to the e-Golf featuring a 36 kWh battery pack with an EPA-rated driving range of 125 miles. The e-Golf was upgraded with standard 7.2 kW Level 2 charging and 50 kW DC fast charging.
The Volkswagen Golf electric car takes over ten hours to be fully charged using a Level 1 EV charger plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet. In contrast, a powerful Level 2 e-Golf charging station like the JuiceBox can charge the e-Golf battery pack from empty to 100% in around 5 hours. With a Level 2 home charging station, you will wake up every morning fully charged. Both the JuiceBox 32 and JuiceBox 40 are perfect options for the Volkswagen Golf electric car, as either can charge at the car’s maximum charge rate.
