Volvo announced that the brand will become a fully electric car company by 2030. This means that from that date onwards, the Swedish auto manufacturer will only be selling electric cars and phase out any cars in its line with internal combustion engines, including hybrids. Since its launch of the XC40 and C40 Recharge Pure electric models, Volvo has been leading with progressive improvements to both its pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) lineups, with all models having a plug-in variant. With the next generation XC90 due to be updated in 2024 as the all electric EX90 and the announcement of the all electric EX30, Volvo is set to reach its goal of becoming a 100% electric automaker.
The Volvo XC40 & C40 Recharge, the electric version of the gas powered XC40, is the first fully electric vehicle (EV). Beginning as a singular twin-motor variant has grown to include a longer-range rear-wheel drive (RWD) model good for almost 300 miles between charges.

The S60 is Volvo’s entry luxury sedan, leaning more towards comfort than a sporty drive. The S60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid offers drivers 455 horsepower, all-wheel drive (AWD) and 523 lb-ft of torque. With up to 40 miles of all electric range, this sedan is a great sustainable alternative to its gasoline-powered counterpart.
Larger than a small hatchback, but not an SUV, the V60 is Volvo’s rare compact station wagon. It rides lower to the ground, weighs less than similarly sized SUVs, and handles better, making for an exciting drive. The V60 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid version offers 455 horsepower and up to 40 miles of all electric range.
The Volvo XC60 Recharge is the PHEV version of Volvo’s popular compact luxury SUV. The XC60 Recharge is powered by a PHEV powertrain, which delivers high power output and an electric range of up to 36 miles.
The Volvo S90 Recharge PHEV is Volvo’s full-size luxury sedan providing 455 horsepower with up to 38 miles of electric range. The S90 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid offers a luxury drive with many driver-assistance features.
As Volvo's only three row vehicle, the Volvo XC90 is a great mid-size luxury SUV for families. The PHEV version of the XC90 Recharge delivers 455 horsepower, excellent acceleration, and 33 miles of electric range.
