eMotorWerks wins 2018 Silver Edison Award for JuiceNet electric vehicle charging software platform
New York, NY - April 12, 2018 -- JuiceNet, the smart-grid electric vehicle charging software from eMotorWerks, an Enel Group Company, was honored last night with a Silver Edison Award in New York City. JuiceNet was selected for the open-API platform’s ability to give drivers, vehicles and charging system OEMS, and grid operators the ability to remotely and automatically control electric vehicle (EV) charging load. This prevents grid overload and enables the deployment of smart-grid charging applications that transform EVs into a grid resource and open up new business models at the grid edge.
“Our judges recognized eMotorWerks as a true innovator out of the many products in its category,” said Frank Bonafilia, executive director of the Edison Awards.
The award was presented at the 2018 Edison Awards where hundreds of senior executives from some of the world’s most recognized companies were in attendance.
“We’re honored to join some of the most innovative companies in the country as a recipient of an Edison Award,” said Preston Roper, COO of eMotorWerks. “With more major automakers vowing to go electric, alongside vastly growing consumer interest in EVs, our solution ensures a smooth evolution into electrification that minimizes EV emissions and automatically optimizes charging load, clearing new pathways for additional business models at the intersection of EVs and the electrical grid. This award is a reflection on the hard work of the entire eMotorWerks team, while also highlighting the importance of smart grid charging solutions in the EV space.”
JuiceNet provides the requisite middle layer for “grid services” unachievable by dozens of electric vehicle supply equipment and EV original equipment manufacturers, who are trying to connect directly with thousands of utilities around the world. The software lets utilities moderate EV charging to prevent grid overload and time EV charging to make use of renewable energy. This same feature allows EV OEMs to deliver clean energy e-mobility options to their customers. JuiceNet generates grid services “rewards” for drivers while understanding their driving habits to ensure EVs are charged when needed. And, importantly, utilities earn recurring energy revenue.
Being recognized with an Edison Award has become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) whose inventions, new product development methods and innovative achievements literally changed the world, garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents, and made him a household name around the world.
The ballot of nominees for the Edison Awards™ was judged by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives including past award winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medical. The Edison Achievement Award serves as inspiration to future innovators and to the world at large.
In addition to the Awards Gala, the annual Edison Awards program encompassed a full-day “Meet the Innovators Forum” and the “Innovators’ Showcase,” which offered guests a hands-on experience with many of the winning products.
