Introduced during the Bavarian-brand's 45-year anniversary in 2022, the i7 brings fully electric, zero emissions driving to BMW’s flagship luxury sedan. Like the i4 and iX, all versions of the 7 series including the i7 ride on the Cluster Architecture platform, bringing similar ride quality and comfort across the range. The split headlights and larger grill herald a new direction for BMW design, shared with its SUV counterpart, the X7 along with features such as an optional 31” 8K TV for rear passengers and hands-free driving assistant. The BMW i7 faces stiff competition in the luxury space from EV-only automakers such as Lucid Air and Tesla Model S and from its longtime competitor Mercedes-Benz in the EQS.
The BMW i7 was introduced in 2022 with one model: the i7 xDrive60. In reference to the xDrive designation, this model comes standard with all wheel drive and a single battery option: a 105.7 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion with a usable capacity of 101.7 kWh. Just like the i4 and iX this BMW i7 is able to charge at 11 kW with a compatible Level 2 charger.
With 101.7 kWh of usable battery capacity and an aerodynamic body profile this large electric luxury sedan is able to drive for over 318 miles in pure-electric comfort. With the larger 21 inch wheels, range drops down to a still impressive 308 miles, keeping any EV driver going further for longer. Charging this large battery can be done fairly quickly with a 195 kW DC fast charger.
THe i7 xDrive60 can charge up to 11 kW on a compatible Level 2 charger. That makes any 48-amp home charger capable of taking advantage of the i7’s quick AC charging, including the Enel X Way JuiceBox 48. With 11.5 kW of power delivery, the JuiceBox 48 can charge any i7 in about 10 hours and 15 minutes!
