Introduced alongside the BMW i4 in 2022, the iX is a midsized electric SUV riding on the same Cluster Architecture platform it shares with the i4 and other modern BMW models. Riding in as the Bavarian automakers answer to the successful Tesla Model X, the iX is roughly similar in sizing to its X5 45e cousin although the iX has a slightly longer wheelbase. The model also has 8 inches of ground clearance and 17.7 cu. ft of cargo capacity, the latter giving it a competitive advantage over its Model X rival. In addition to the Model X, the iX has seen competition against the Audi Q8 e-tron, Cadillac Lyric, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and upcoming Polestar 3.
With a large 111.5 kWh battery under the body, the mid-sized electric SUV has capable range to compete against the current king of the segment, the Tesla Model X. This translates to maximum range figures for the base xDrive50 of 324 miles and 288 miles for the sport oriented M60 variant. This gives the iX the second-longest range for a luxury midsized crossover or SUV.
Regardless of iX variant you choose, both models can charge up to 11 kW on a compatible Level 2 charger. That makes any 48-amp home charger capable of taking advantage of the i7’s quick AC charging, including the Enel X Way JuiceBox 48. With 11.5 kW of power delivery, the JuiceBox 48 can charge any iX in about 10 hours and 45 minutes!
