Charging the Audi Q4 e-tron electric crossover

What drivers need to know about the Audi Q4 e-tron

With both the Audi Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT sport sedan occupying the higher-end of Audi’s EV lineup, the Q4 e-tron is a luxury EV at a more accessible price point. Based off VW Group’s MEB platform shared with the Volkswagen ID.4, the Q4 e-tron is a compact electric crossover SUV in both traditional SUV and a more coupe-like Sportback body styles that elevates from its ID.4-cousin to compete against others in its segment such as the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQB and Lexus RZ.

The Audi Q4 e-tron carries over features from its ID.4-platform mate including the 82 kWh battery with 77 kWh of usable capacity, standard rear wheel drive and DC fast charging at 150 kWh. Standard Q4 40 e-tron models are rear wheel drive with a 201 hp rear electric motor while stepping up to the Q4 50 gains the German brand’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive system, adding an electric motor to power the front wheels for a total of 295 hp. The Q4 Sportback is only available in 50 configurations with all wheel drive. Higher trims gain certain features like a SONOS premium sound system, advanced cruise control with lane assist and customizable animations for the headlights and taillights.

Charging the Audi Q4 e-tron

Both the Q4 40 e-tron and the 50 e-tron are powered by the same 82 kWh battery of which 77 kWh is available. This gives the rear wheel drive-equipped 40 trim an EPA range of 265 miles while the all-wheel drive-equipped 50 trim for the normal and Sportback body styles are rated at 236 and 242 miles respectively.

The Q4 e-tron in both 40 and 50 configurations are able to charge up to 11 kW with a Level 2 charger, making 48 amp home chargers like the JuiceBox 48 the ideal pick for drivers looking to charge at the fastest possible AC speeds. Home charging on the 48 should recharge a Q4 e-tron from empty to full in about 7 hours.
